Last Light

Image
February 27, 2015. Last light as I head out of the office after a long and productive day. Tonight: getting ready to travel. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1BK6g4v

Total Crushing

Image
February 26, 2015. Kind of a quiet day, which was good because I was tired and had a headache all day. I'm trying to get loose ends wrapped up before I leave on Saturday. That includes some new pants and a Costco run this evening. As I walked around the store looking for things to photograph, I thought about Andy Warhol and the fascination he had with packaging and marketing. I get that. But that, I think, is where any similarity between myself and Warhol ends. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1AdxEkg

Snowfall

Image
February 25, 2015. So we've adopted 'no-meeting Wednesdays' at the office, which means I had only three meetings scheduled for today. But then the first person got the day wrong, which canceled that meeting. One person was double booked, so that canceled the second meeting. The third was a webinar, but internet access dropped just as it was starting and stayed down for an hour and a half. So there went the third meeting. I tghink it's called karma. Meanwhile, as I was having a very productive day in the office, a foot of snow fell outside, and I watched the snowdrifts get higher and higher as I worked. No matter; I didn't care at all, because everyone left early and left me to my bliss. Paperwork? Done. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1wqdZTj

Basket

Image
February 24, 2014. Moncton falls 124-89 to a superior London Lightning club in their last home game of the regular season. Good crowd, but a disappointing result. It has been that kind of season. From Flickr http://ift.tt/17woVD4

Rich

Image
February 23, 2015. Busy day today, spin class after, so I forgot my memory card and had to use my phone for photos. The Galaxy Note has a good camera but it strruggles a bit in low light. Anyhow, these are guest dancers at tonight's Miracles gamer. Good game, they came to play hard, and lost in overtime. No shame in this. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1w4Rail

Snow

Image
February 22, 2015. The City has basically given up trying to help us with our snow. The sidewalk behind Andrea has been completely shoveled by hand. Our driveway, meanwhile, is about ten feet longer than usual, representing the snow pile on the road reading to a singe lane of traffic. This also we clear ourselves. Meanwhile the posh and widely spaced suburb of Royal Oaks gets top priority. But no, there's no shennagans. No indeed. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1CZNDUX

Good Night

Image
February 21, 2015. This is pretty much the last thing I see every day; it's my bedstand with my evening decaf. The wood is a simple shell I built to house my CPAP. I put my glasses and laptop on top, then I turn off the light. Polysporin for itchy legs, and a black lens cloth for my glasses. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1CZNBfP

North

Image
February 20, 2015. A messy photo for a messy day. Left Toronto, flew home. Ugly weather on both sides of the trip. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1AtunRm

Audrey Watters

Image
February 19, 2015. Audrey Watters delivers her talk on the history of the future of technology at Ryerson University's Change School in Toronto. I had the unenviable task of following up her engaging talk, but I think I held my own. It was nice to see her again, we didn't get enough time to talk at any length, but I'm sure we'll cross paths again. From Flickr http://ift.tt/17xxPA7

War Memorial

Image
February 19, 2015. I took a frigid walk around the centre of Ottawa before geetting on the train and heading for Toronto, getting some nice shots of Parliament and the Rideau Canal. From Flickr http://ift.tt/17Z2iYZ

Turbine

Image
February 17, 2015. Second day of my course at the NRC, which is where this wind turbine is located. You can get a sense of the size by looking at the fence, trees and ladder. It's across the road from M36 where I was and is used for aeronautical research. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1EMhhzi

M36

Image
February 16, 2015. Spent all day in Building M36 taking 'Stakeholder Engagement' training as part of my ongoing staff development program. This photo is from a display in the lobby of M36. Bitter bitter cold today. Good training, as well as a good lunch and supper meeting. Full day. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1ALbmeQ

Middleton

Image
February 15, 2015. 67s game this afternoon in freezing cold Ottawa. New camera but my older zoom lens, which isn't a full frame (still reasonable quality though). I have lots of action shots but I like the composition of this one. I spent time messing around with Windows Movie Maker this morning, because I need to make a video, which I may do later this evening. Oh yeah, final score: Ottawa 3, Kingston 0. Good game. Winterlude

Image
February 14, 2015. After a difficult flight to Ottawa just ahead of another Maritime blizzard, I was able to get out for a bit with the new camera and get some night shots of Ottawa's winter festival, Winterlude. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1FckDPJ

Lexi

Image
February 13, 2015. Just another cat photo, you say. Well, yes. But it's my first upload from my new Nikon D750, and if you look at the full size version of the photo you'll appreciate what this camera can do. As I said to the guy at Ivan's, I'm going to have so much fun with this camera. A nice end to a day full of (productive) meetings today, and a flight to Ottawa tomorrow, just ahead of Sunday's storm. A Patch of Blue

Image
February 12, 2015. It doesn't really come out in this photo (despite my various attempts in Photoshop) but the highlight of the photo should be the patch of blue sky opening up above the trees. A typical winter day in Moncton. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Ah1DOK

Body Shop

Image
February 11, 2015. So the seatbelt doesn't retract fully, which resulted in it getting caught in the door and denting it right where the 'open door' sensor touches it, resulting in unwanted (and false) 'door open' alerts. Honda sent me to an auto body shop, which is in a tiny alcove behind a different body shop. They fixed it in about five minutes, and Honda covered it under warranty. A good time was had by all. This is the interior of the body shop just before my car was rolled in. From Flickr http://ift.tt/16Uxozw

Bart and Lexi

Image
February 2, 2010. Bart (right) and Lexi (left) are so happy I'm home, they've camped out on my suitcaase and won't let me leave. Another beautiful low low low light shot with my new lens. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1AffjIz

Coffee

Image
February 09, 2015. Back to Monday, a couple of meetings, catching up on email, spin class, Costco, and a photograph of Andrea's ten-year old coffee plant (which has suffered over the years) with my new lens. New camera? Soon. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1zE5AL6

Coach

Image
The Island Storm coach watches Tyler Murray of the Miracles push around the outside in what was generally a lacklustre 97-87 losing effort for the Moncton side. I achieved extra crispness and colour in my photos with my new lens. I miss being able to zoom, but I love the quality. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1IxnS6R

Nifty Fifty

Image
February 7, 2015. The star of this photo isn't Alex - though he looks pretty good - it's my new Nikkor 1:1.54 50mm lens I used to take the photo. I still need to learn about what it can do (and what it can't do) but I already love the crystal clear shots in very low light. Alex would agree. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1yUHk3K

Yorkville

Image
February 6, 2015. I never knew that Yorkville was this whole collection of funky shops and such behind Bloor Steet, but in retrospect I guess I should have known. In any event I was there to arrange for my visa to get into Saudi Arabia, which is where I took this photo, and this and this . From Flickr http://ift.tt/1DKobEy

King Street

Image
January 5, 2015. I did a workshop this morning but the bad weather and cold limited attendance to about eight people. This afternoon I had a meeting downtown so I took the subway, getting out here at King Street. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1Ay7UF8

The Old Mill

Image
February 4, 2015. This the the hotel where I'm staying in Toronto. It's really quite spectacular, and a short walk from the Old Mill subway station. There are some incredible old rooms inside. Sorry about the grey skies; nothing I can do about that. Just Toronto winter weather. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1F7KtRZ

Strategies

Image
February 3, 2015. Ashley Ward (foreground) introduces Rhonda McEwen (seated) at the Education Technology Strategies conference at the beautiful Old Mill hotel in Toronto. Good first day of the conference, engaging and interesting. Notes here . From Flickr http://ift.tt/1AtfnW9

Before the Storm

Image
February 2, 2015. Morning planning meeting and then a flight to Toronto. This is the 12:30 flight - I caught the 2:25 flight - we caught up to them by the time they reached Toronto. The blizzard was just entering Moncton as we left. Happiness. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1vt1A0s

Driving to the Net

Image
February 1, 2015. Another basketball game today, this time a home loss (though I felt happy for the Halifax fans who made the long trek through the snow to see the game). It has been a long year for both these teams. From Flickr http://ift.tt/1yqXX6M
