Recycling the Cat

Image
June 30, 2017. Got home a bit early and worked on the PLE software in my office. Ever loyal, Alex joined me for the duration, sleeping in his favourite box.

Roses

Image
June 29, 2017. Stopped at the drug store on the way into work to pick up some Flo-Naz and noticed that all the islands in the parking lot have these great rose bushes.

Robin in the Crabapple Tree

Image
July 28, 2017. Spotted outside the window of my office at home, I had to w ait for a meeting to end before snapping this photo. You c an see why the rbin like the tree, as it blends in perfectly.

Rainbow

Image
June 27, 2017. I was feeling pretty good as I drove home from the office as I was treated with a rainbow most of the way. I took this just south of town, off the highway, so I could get nice country scenery into it.

Pumping Station

Image
June 26, 2017. This is paert of the new sewage treatment system we are all paying for here in Casselman.

False Advertising

Image
June 25, 2017. I tried this new tuna in Costco because it looked appertizing. But the contents in no way resenbled the appealing image on the box. In theory I suppose this is tuna. Shredded tuna. Or Little Lisa's Slurry. Even the cats won't eat it.

Caballero

Image
June 24, 2017. Not an El Camino, as I first thought, but a GM Caballero, spotted in the Metro parking lot.

Weeds

Image
June 23, 2017. Back home. here's a view of the weeds in our back yard. There is a nice set of white flowers, and just to the left, the milkweed. Weve been planting milkweed all over the yard.

In Bruges

Image
June 21, 2017. Took the train to Bruges and spent the day walking around taking photos. There were many more tourists than in Ghent. Bruges is very attractive, but it's also very touristy. Had a nice evening of beer and conversation, the prepared for my 5:30 a.m. morning.

BusinessPeople

Image
June 20, 2017. I was all prepared with anothe photo - the butterfly, from the other day - for my presentation, but then I saw this in the conference room and went with it. What's interesting to me is what different people think when they see it: women would see no women, black people would see no blace people, working people see nothing but men in suits. Me, I look at it and see nobody with long hair. Accomplishments: - deleivered and posted my 'A Model of Personal Learning' tak, Take 2

Adoration of the Mystic Lamb

Image
June 19, 2017. This is one of the back panels of the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb in the in St Bavo's Cathedral, attributed to the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck. It was a treat to be able to see these panels (I missed them when I was last in Ghent). Spent the day sleeping and walking around, then a nice dinner in the evening. Early morning tomorrow.

Ghent

Image
June 18, 2017. Ghent. Arrived just before noon and after seettling in I headed out to enjoy an absolutely brilliant (steamy hot) Sunday afternoon in the city.

Night Flight

Image
June 17, 2017. I spent Saturday puttering on code (and watching the Jays lose) and then flew to Europe. I don't sleep on night flights any more; I stay awake, and then as long as I can the next day, adjusting to jet lag by extending my waking day rather than shortening it. Also, sleeping on an airplane is dangerous for me - they won't let you use your CPAP, but as the death of Carrie Fisher shows, this can have fatal consequences.

Robin

Image
June 16, 2017. This is the neighbour's sheed as seen from my kitchen window. What's interesting is that the robin in the centre is very upset about something and making sure everyone in the neighbourhood knows about it.

Riverside Park

Image
June 15, 2017. This is the riverside park in Casselman as viewed through the car window while waiting for construction. This construction is of new sewage systems in our area; it completely changes your perspective on construction when you're paying part of the cost, as I am with this.

The Future

Pole

Image
June 14, 2017. The bend in the pole is not an optical illusion. We live on a corner lot and this pole carries the load, needing no fewer than eight support wires to keep it upright, and warped like a taut bow as you can see. One day it will snap with a very loud bang, but not today. Finished the jquery file uploader today. Most of the hard parts are done.

The Ball Game

Image
June 13, 2017. Back home after a day working on funding proposal evaluations. Watching the Blue Jays game - about which the less said the better. This is me: dirty plate, Vesuvius mousepad, San Pelligrino water, and a host of other odds and ends.

Farm

Image
June 12, 2017. This farm is seen as you wait for the light at the Casselman exit on highway 417. more work on the editor today, which I swear will be done soon.

Backyard

Image
June 11, 2017. We own not one but two garden sheds. Both of which are empty. Anyone know what to do with a garden shed? Spent the day mostly indoors (warm but very windoy) working on my file editor.

Ontario Woods

Image
June 10, 2017 bonus pic. Just after I photographed the woodpecker this guy walked by, giving me a nice opportunty to showcase the beauty of the Ontario woods.

Pileated Woodpecker

Image
June 10, 2017. I spotted this beauty on the walking trail east of Russell. It's an adult femaile pileated woodpecker . I had a good 75 km bike ride today, making it all the way to Metcalfe and back.

Time

Image
June 9, 2017. Another beutiful summer day spent in the office. I actually lost ground today. *sigh*

Buttercups

Image
June 8, 2017. Beautiful summer day which I spent in the office. :( There were in our back yard.

Clover

Image
June 7, 2017. This is the first day it really feels like summer. I was insider working all day. *sigh* This is clover in our back yard. Accomplishments: - posted Open Learning, Open Networks

Tree

Image
June 6, 2017. Some days it's just hard to take a photo, because I've been at home and in the office, and that's it. This is at the office. It's a tree. I do love trees, but I've already photographed this one. No matter. Good day, meeting in the morning, coding in the afternoon. Accomplishments: - wrote 'On Rights and Religious Liberty'

Golf Course Parking

Image
June 5, 2017. Along Blair Rad between the 174 and Innes is this golf course. It's land that would be much nicer as a park. But rich people fence it and block people from accessing it. I hate golf. Good day today; after a month of preparaton I wrote my course harvester in one day. It doesn't work, but I wrote it. Tweaks tomorrow.

Under the Dome

Image
June 4, 2017. Arrived early to get our Josh Donadson bobbleheads, then enjoyed the game as he hit a home run to win it in the 8th, and the drove home. Back in Casselman consoling cats who missed us so very much over two days.

2017-06-03-9332

Image
Brett Gardner tees up the first of what would be four home runs for the Yankees in the 8th inning off Jason Grilli. So it was a 7-0 loss for the Blue Jays.

Markham

Image
June 2, 2017. This is the view from the hotel room in Markham. Worked through the day today - odds & ends on the editor, and reviewing funding proposals - and then a five hour drive to the Big Smoke. Ball game is still on, and looking forward to the games tomorrow and Sunday.

Supper

Image
June 1, 2017. This is my usual supper: a piece of salmon on some mixed vegetables. To the veggies I've added chili pepper flakes and smokey paprika, and the fish is glazed with maple-pepper-chipotle. The salmon, btw, is farmed salmon, so it's sustainable.
